I mean. Look how cute.
Her extra-perked left ear and flopped-over right ear slay me.
Either right before or right after this picture was taken (or, let’s be honest, probably both before and after), she was likely causing mischief.
Chasing the cats.
Chewing on Penny’s head.
Climbing into the dishwasher.
All the rowdy, troublesome behavior of a 7-month-old puppy.
Chaos driven by curiosity.
This week, I wanted to write my email/essay about the importance of context. It matters in everything we do, including how we respond to our dogs’ behavior and how we make a training plan. And how getting curious about the context of a behavior can often solve the behavior faster—and with more compassion—than another approach.
However, between chasing this puppy around the house, taking her out to potty train a million times, and having to organize our entire family’s schedule around only having one car for the week (did I mention Stola chewed through two seat belts from the back of my car and now rides exclusively in her crate?), my brain can’t concentrate on putting my thoughts in order. It will come. Probably much later.
So, instead, one piece of news and one request:
Book News
My publisher delayed my book release until the fall. I’m not super clear on why… something to do with distribution or marketing… but, in the meantime, my second manuscript is getting ready to go to my agent. I feel like at this point, book two will be published before book one. Regardless, when I know more, I’ll share more.
I do know the cover reveal should be happening soon, so… 🤞
A Request
I’m in the land of all things puppy, but the last time we had a puppy was when baby Cooper came home in 2010. It’s been a while.
Would you please leave a comment or click reply with any recommendations you have for puppy resources? Podcasts, books, blogs, YouTube channels—any and all is so greatly appreciated! And if anyone knows of anything crafted especially for either disabled dogs or multi-dogs with disabilities, I’ll take you out for a coffee in gratitude!
I’m always hesitant to write about food or nutrition because the internet has some STRONG ideas about these topics, but when it comes to rotational feeding for dogs, we’ve had enormous success for many years.
I hope you’re having a wonderful week and getting outside to enjoy some fresh air with your pup. Thanks for being here and for sharing your dogs—and love of dogs—with this community!
Take good care,
P.S. Don’t forget to snag your freebies from the subscriber file! I’m adding a few more next month, so keep an eye out.
One thing you failed to mention about puppies - poop! It seems to trail them wherever they go, soiling everything with sticky, stinky, goo. If photos could transmit smell, fewer people would be inclined to want puppies. Perhaps we could end overbreeding!
